FLUXBLOG 2011 SURVEY MIX
This ten-disc, 183-song mix is a survey of some of the best and most notable music from 2011. It covers a wide range of artists and genres, and I think it's as comprehensive as it possibly can be while focusing on my personal favorites and omitting stuff I either don't care about or outright hate. I think you’ll find that this serves as both a helpful guide to some of the year’s most exciting music and a surprisingly listenable series of mixes. Discover new music, rethink familiar acts, jam out to nearly 13 hours of music. If you enjoy this, please do pass it on.
If you're reallllly behind on music, I should point out that the
2010 survey is still available. If you'd like to stream the set - minus about 30 of the songs – you can do so on either

aaaaah! yessss ive been waiting for this
12/1/11 11:39 am
I really loved it when you did these in podcast form a few years ago, but I understand you’re far more busy these days.
12/1/11 1:13 pm
I prefer the MP3’s over podcast as it means I can digest this massive collection in chunks. Thanks so much for putting it together - just incredible work. So much music that I missed out on this year to catch up with
12/1/11 1:21 pm
Amazing amazing amazing. Tomorrow morning I have an 8 hour bus ride, only to make the return trip on Monday. This timing couldn’t be anymore perfect. I’ve been reading you since you dropped ‘Yeah’ by LCD and really admire your writing. Thanks again!
12/1/11 1:53 pm
Thanks for doing this. Last years mix was wonderful.
12/1/11 3:35 pm
Fuck. There goes my afternoon
12/1/11 7:56 pm
Ooh. Homework time for me. Just started reading your blog this month and been working my way backwards in time. Our tastes are pretty different. Most of the music on your blog I would not listen to more than once, which makes the writing all the more interesting to me - you find a way to make me deeply curious about a song and give me something to listen for, even if it’s way out of my scope of genres.
Cheers.
12/1/11 9:58 pm
Thanks, Mr. Perpetua. How did you decide the sequencing and which songs fit into which disc? Or was it all just thrown in there?
12/1/11 11:06 pm
I spent a couple weeks figuring out what was going in, then spent more time trying to make it fit together well, both as individual mixes and as a larger 183 track thing, while taking some songs out and putting them in. A fair number of songs had to be cut to make this fit to ten discs. I didn’t want to go over that limit. This is more than enough.
12/2/11 12:14 pm
i wish you would make a single disc best of the best or maybe just collect those that you consider personal favorites for those that don’t have time for 10 discs.
12/2/11 12:15 pm
i mean 10 discs…. come on dude.
12/2/11 12:17 pm
Spotify playlist?
(readers could help create….)
12/2/11 12:48 pm
Some readers have made a Spotify playlist. The problem with that is that you lose something like 50 tracks, and a huge chunk of the hip-hop. So it totally defeats the purpose of the survey, you know?
12/2/11 1:18 pm
[...] Finally, it’s the most wonderful time of the year: Matthew Perpetua has posted the Fluxblog 2011 Survey Mix! 10 discs, 183 songs, 13 hours of music, yours for the [...]
12/2/11 1:35 pm
True. The idea being, download each disc and then the playlist will work (with local files); this would allow removing redundant files already stored.
Thanks regardless!

SHUSH GEORGE!
Some of us are too busy to find this music during the rest of the year and we LOVE the ten discs!
Thanks so much, Matthew, as always. Man, you really brighten my December!

12/2/11 6:54 pm
Seconded, Tracy. 10 discs is great.
Thank you, Matthew. Everybody donate or buy a T-shirt!
12/2/11 10:23 pm
Hey Matt, have you listened to the albums of all the artists featured?
12/3/11 6:15 am
Yeah, I’ve heard all of these records. Some more than others. A lot of my listening habits — thanks to doing this site for ten years — involves cherry-picking tracks from records, so I don’t always spend a lot of time with full albums, even if I love particular songs.
George — make your own single-disc set! The point of this is to be sprawling, comprehensive, overwhelming. The thing I like about making/listening to this on my end is that I like the “whoa, soooo many good songs!” feeling. It makes me feel better about the year in music, it makes me think about just how much great stuff comes out all the time. I mean, I had to cut a lot of excellent stuff just to get this down to 10 discs!
12/3/11 8:19 am
great, great list.
12/3/11 6:30 pm
Thanks so much for this; it’s difficult for me to sample much new, and so nice that you do all this work for it. You’ve turned me on to a ton of great music (but I kind of curse you for the earworm “Meet a Bear” that is tattooed on my brain now).
12/6/11 4:29 pm
I’ve started a Spotify Playlist: http://open.spotify.com/user/philgyford/playlist/1pPZ5voAptT9Z67KSMtQnf
I’ve added the first disc and am adding the rest now. Several tracks are missing, inevitably.
12/7/11 5:56 am
how is this legal? not objecting to tons of free music but did every single one of these tracks get approved by their respective labels. if so good job, if not slippery slope to go down no?
12/7/11 11:55 am
I never said anything about this or anything on this site being legal. Fluxblog: 10 Years of Dubious Legality.

I’m glad you chose “Fallout” from Era Extrana. That track opens my own 2011 retrospective mix (a mere 20 songs).
1/2/12 11:15 pm
That song is a big deal to me!
1/7/12 9:31 pm
Definitely. It’s probably his sexiest song to date.
1/12/12 10:52 pm
i’m intrigued and confused in equal measure by the album art you’ve used. What is it?
1/13/12 11:01 am
It’s a photo I took at the G train platform in Court Square in Queens. It has some personal meaning for me, but I also just like the composition.
