I listened to a lot of "What Makes You Think You're the One" a lot when creating a mix over the Winter. Made me wonder if Fleetwood Mac was an influence on Modest Mouse. Isaac often sounds like Lindsey does in this song.

I feel Christine has some really solid tracks here, but agree that she doesn't quite reach the heights of Buckingham (I Know I'm Not Wrong, Tusk, Walk a Thin Line) or Nicks (Storms, Sara, Beautiful Child). That said, her presence on the album is so perfectly soothing at the right times and perfectly bridges the other two songwriters' material.

I like "Over and Over" and "Think About It" but I agree they're not McVie's strongest work. On the other hand, I really like "Sara" even though I'm not generally a big fan of Nicks - it's probably my second favorite of hers, behind "Dreams."

Really, though, the Buckingham material on Tusk would be a great single album, and it's let down a little by the other two songwriters' material. "Walk a Thin Line" is one of the greatest songs ever, and "I Know I'm Not Wrong" isn't too far behind.

My favorite thing about "What Makes You Think You're the One" is the way he pronounces the words. It sounds like he's so angry he can barely speak. It's one of my gym songs, ha.

As far as the single selection on Tusk, I think it makes sense in the vein of trying to present the album as being similar or having the approachability of their others, which is deceptive, because it isn't. But there are definitely better songs they could've used to convey its appeal.

I refer you to two posts ago where I express deep confusion as to why anyone in their right mind would open a record with "Over and Over."

They're not bad songs by any stretch! They're just not her best work.

I've never heard 'What Makes You Think You’re the One' and if I hadn't gotten it from here there would have been little doubt in my mind that it was Arcade Fire.

As far as the single selection on Tusk, I think it makes sense in the vein of trying to present the album as being similar or having the approachability of their others, which is deceptive, because it isn't. But there are definitely better songs they could've used to convey its appeal.

I mean, Over and fucking Over, for god's sake. At least you have to acknowledge that that song's massive.
