People are going crazy over this album and touting it as the top album of the year so far. Not sure what I think just yet - somewhat of mixed feelings I guess.

Okay, the guitar chords in thhis song -- the pairs that descend and ascend -- sound exactly like the synth line from a rap song, I think from the late nineties. To the point that I think she's purposely quoting it, which would make it even more brilliant. I can't for the life of me remember the song to track it down. Any thoughts.

The body image thing was also something Ani Difranco always tried to convey, too, but couldn't do it without getting really hamhanded. Actually, going back to the first time I heard "Fiya" a few years ago, I always thought Garbus was the evolutionary Ani (evolutionary meaning, coming after Phair, Bjork, and MIA, as well, so there's quite a gulf there). When I played whokill for my wife for the first time she said something like, "This is the record Ani Difranco always wanted to make but wasn't good enough and couldn't get out of her own way".

The body image thing was also something Ani Difranco always tried to convey, too, but couldn’t do it without getting really hamhanded. Actually, going back to the first time I heard “Fiya” a few years ago, I always thought Garbus was the evolutionary Ani (evolutionary meaning, coming after Phair, Bjork, and MIA, as well, so there’s quite a gulf there). When I played whokill for my wife for the first time she said something like, “This is the record Ani Difranco always wanted to make but wasn’t good enough and couldn’t get out of her own way”.
