I don’t think Modonna gives a shit that Lady Gaga’s song “Born this way” sounds similar to her “Express yourself”. So why should we? Really the fact that people are fighting about these “feel good” “happy” “self loving” “peace like” songs is kind of childish. And this is coming from a child.

Cyrus, Matthew didn’t say that anyone who dislikes Lady Gaga is an idiot and a hypocrite. He said that to criticize her because her career in many ways takes its cues from Madonna’s is not really a valid criticism.

Do you know what bothers me the most about Lady Gaga and her fans? The assumption that you’re locked in some kind of battle with everyone who “doesn’t get it.” You’re so convinced that this is a culture war you’re waging that anyone who feels differently about your pop heiress is automatically “an idiot and a hypocrite.” Would *you* want to engage in a debate with someone who made that their opening argument?

I’ve tried to get into Gaga’s music, and frankly I think it’s boring. Mediocre. *Bad Pop Music*. It’s not bad because it *resembles* Madonna, it’s bad because it’s *inferior* to Madonna in every way imaginable. “Vogue” and “Holiday” are two of my favorite pop songs ever, but thus far the only thing I like by Gaga is the chorus to “Alejandro,” and even that isn’t enough to keep me from rolling my eyes at its Latino-pandering.

Is that allowed, or should we just turn Gaga concerts into the pop equivalent of a Sarah Palin rally? Because that’s what *you* are doing, Matthew. *You* (and the rest of the “little monsters”) are setting the tone for nastiness and snark, not anyone else. And it’s gotten to the point that I don’t even feel like voicing my opinion for fear of being branded anti-feminist. Or homophobic. Or rockist. Or a hypocrite. Or *whatever*, man. It’s too exhausting.

And what I usually love and respect about your writing is that it rises above this kind of thing.
