Matthew, just out of curiosity, how many times did you see the band back in the ’90s? I caught them 10 or so (May ‘94 circa Crooked Rain until Terror Twilight Irving Plaza Matador show in ‘99), and they could be flat-out awful at times, and sort of flirt with brilliance others. I’m just wondering how this show stacked up. Seeing them at least three times in September in NYC, and maybe the other two as well.

I was also going berserk at Pavement’s performance at Pitchfork. They are for sure my favorite American band of all time (only Pulp rivals them for my overall #1) and I’ve been waiting since 1997 when I was a freshman in high school to see them live for the first time. I’ll definitely agree with you that “Unfair” was a noteworthy supernatural moment of their amazing set. Every member was in top form, but credit should be given to Pavement’s secret weapon, Bob Nastanovich. He really launched that song into whole other realm. That performance showcased how Bob just embodies the energy, charisma, and humor that defines Pavement.
