I am curious to see where it goes -- p4k taking successful bloggers in their own right, putting them together under the p4k/Altered States banner.

Is what Scissor Sisters is doing a niche now? Immaculately produced, shiny pop music? Maybe in our small section of the world it is becoming that way.

Altered States is just going to be this loosely connected thing where a particular niche will get covered in greater depth, mostly the sort of stuff that it wouldn't make sense to devote a lot of coverage on the regular site, which is more eclectic and wide-ranging. Some of those things will still get covered on the main site, but they are pretty much separate things. Altered States is a supplement, a complementary thing. If it goes over well, maybe they'll do something similar for other niches. Who knows.

I guess I'm commenting here to respond to your Tumblr from today -- while I agree with all your critiques of the new album in your review, I hyper agree with your assertion that Night Work should have been highlighted more on p4k today. I mean, I have to believe that people care about Wavvves because they tell me so, but it's very difficult for me. What's wrong with pop music being poppy?

And now I'm really going to sound like a grump but is Altered States really necessary? Does it mean that the main site will get to concentrate on enjoyable music again? I'm overstating for effect here but c'mon.
