hands down agree, though Fox Confessor Brings the Flood is in my top three favorite albums of all time, this is easily the best of 2009. She's by far the biggest influence to me and songwriting (and I'm a 20 year old boy!) but its her structure, her fleeting tones and moods that make me realize how important to my life and music she is. Seriously, listen to "Fever", its like one of the most lyrically/progressively genius songs ever.
yeah!

This song of hers reminds me of Gillian Welch--the lyrics do seem immutable facts, as you say, and also that this song was already written, part of the world somehow.

I like how the listener is the storm chaser. Beautiful blog and podcasts, btw---

Agreed with both the poster and commenter (DHS). This is my favorite album of 2009 and possibly my favorite Neko Case album. Lyrically, she's more literal on this new album, which I like when compared to Fox Confessor Brings the Flood (what is "tectonic fever", anyway?)

Far and away my favorite record of the new year.

Agree about only sensing a form. Her stuff's so far out from verse-chorus-bridge conventions, there's nothing to hold onto except the voice. You look up from the songs and wonder how much time passed. I've listened to the stream on npr over and over but had no idea the number of tracks til today.

I love this record big time. There's so...much...going on in it.
