The '90s throwback is such a huge draw for me and when I hear this tune I can't quite separate the past from the present. I'm a teenager at the 9:30 watching Velocity Girl or Ted Leo before he had any Pharmacists or Radiohead on the Bends tour. It makes me feel like that guy who just listens to classic rock because he grew up in the '70s and got turned off by disco and rap and hasn't bothered with anything new since. But then, I still listen to a ton of new music. And there's a lot of new stuff I love. Still sometimes I just want to retreat into a back room and spin old Teenage Fanclub discs for awhile, you know? That mention in the Idolator post of Belly just made me want to hear "Full Moon, Empty Heart" or "Slow Dog." Star was such a great album.
