		<description>I have this reflexive nostalgia for older New York, too.  You hint that it's rooted in unrelated, present-day disappointments, that's definitely how I see it.

That said, it relaxes me to hear gunshots in Chinatown, just in hopes my rent will go down.  A nice crime wave would make Manhattan cheap enough to be cool again.</description>
