Nice work with the Vampire Weekend to Sublime comparison. How about the The Dave Matthews Band?

Nah, not DMB. You have to be a little romantic to be like DMB. That’s a different thing. I think VW/Sublime is a very “this is what we put on at our cookout party and pretend that we are 21 forever” sort of thing.

Sublime is not in their league lyrically. VW is some poetry. I’ll leave it at that.
They’re not playing afropop on A-Punk, either. This is a band that can vary.
Outside of the radio hits, I’m not familiar with Sublime. Those songs felt like reggae hokum for pot smokers, that traded heavily on laid-back-surfer viiiiibe.
No interest in Sublime, plenty of interest in what’s to come from VW.

Diet Cola = Josh Fauver of Deerhunter fame, if you were, say, going for side-project theme here.

Ha, you know, maybe you shouldn’t take the Sublime comparison as being a totally negative thing. I’m just saying that it’s music that has a very similar utility and vibe for two different demographics.
Maybe you’re just passing through, but this is basically a pro-pop site.

Glad to see Diet Cola getting some love. Didn’t expect to see them somewhere like this, but happy to.
As a note: The guy behind Diet Cola — who, as Paul mentioned, is also in Deerhunter — is also in another band that rocks, SIDS.

I have to say I like the VW album and didn’t find the Sublime comment to be offensive. I never owned a Sublime album, but I didn’t object to their songs when they came on the radio. They were a bit too frat-boy for my taste but they had their craft down.
This version of campus really brings out the Wes Andersony vibe that the band hints at with their album cover design, and I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not.
