Twenty Four Hours A Day I'll Give You Love
Excerpt from Annie's DJ Kicks - Bumblebee Unlimited "Lady Bug (I Wanna Be Your)" / Annie "Gimme Your Money" - There are no big surprises on Annie's DJ Kicks, but that's very good news actually. Aside from Bow Wow Wow's "I Want Candy," there aren't any obvious/ubiquitous selections, but I'm sure that most fans of Annimal will recognize quite a bit from this mix, especially if they've been reading this blog over the past few years - three songs have appeared here in the recent past, and several other artists have been featured here, but for different songs. (Bless her heart, she even included my favorite ESG song!) I'd never heard this Bumblebee Unlimited track before, but it's a total disco gem, and it flows very naturally into a funky new Annie track exclusively recorded for this mix. Nicely done. (Click here for the K7 DJ Kicks site.)
Vanessihna & Alessandra "Gira" - This is Brazillian funk, and as such, it's very physical and sexual, but at the same time, there's this very childlike feeling in the melody, and the singer sounds as though she's no older than fourteen years old. It's vaguely creepy, but it serves to lighten the tone from outright lechery to something closer to flirtatious frivolity. (Click here to buy it from Essay Recordings.)

“Lady Bug” is fire!!

morgan geist dropped the ladybug track as the last song of the night when he played in boston last winter and the place went nuts! so much fun.

good to see you’re finally getting reasonable taste in music. it’s nice you’re reading ILM on a regular basis. maybe you should consider listening to the mixes on alldisco.net to further your education.
8/29/05 7:59 pm
Education? Are you actually Charles R. Martin?
8/29/05 8:10 pm
Wow. That was immensely condescending. I salute Patrick Fuckin’ Adams (or was the apostrophe intentionally left out? I’m not up on what the cool “educated” kids are doing myself, so feel free to let me know) for willing to be that much of a prick. And I presume PAF is willing to leave similar tips for all the other blogs, too? Because I feel you could be, like, the Johnny Appleseed of the mp3 blog set, dropping the seed of “education” on all those without enlightenment. Go forth and plow barren fields!

actually dicky, it’s PFA. your blog sucks, and your metaphor of johnny appleseed is pathetic. try again.

Ignore the troll.
Nice post. The 14-year old thing…I think it’s mostly because American women have really low voices compared to the rest of the world. I don’t know if it is cultural or because of the English language.

Brazilian funk sucks.

pfa gfy

The Annie mix looks to be good, but I heard worrying rumours she added Paris Hilton to it? I liked that track in the beginning, but now it’s just plain annoying. This excerpt was plain great though.

A brief comment about Vanessinha & Alessandra’s track: they sample a Brazilian singer named Gretchen, famous — or rather infamous — for her performances in the 70s and early 80s, where even her sweaty panties would be auctioned among the attendees of her concerts.
I don’t agree with “anonymous”, according to whom Brazilian funk “sucks”.
Granted, it’s not my favorite music, but it has it appeal to the people who go to the “Bailes Funk” in several cities in the country.
Paulo, in Brazil

Daniel, there’s less than a minute of Mu’s “Paris Hilton” on her mix - she pretty much put the best part in and mixed right out of it.

we like the cars,
the cars that go boom.
we’re vanessihna and alessandra,
and we like the boom.

a) you’re sure that “gimme your money” isn’t a misfits cover? no, not those misfits! the misfits as in the bad girl band from ‘jem + the holograms.’
b) thank you for “gira.” i heard it a little while ago on some sketchy mp3 site, which had it mislabelled as a m.i.a. track so i skipped it, then got the song stuck in my head, then couldn’t find the damn site again.

Glad to hear it!

I think I’ve also heard the ladybug track on a M. Geist mix. totally ace stuff.
About the asshole above, P. Adams is apparently the man behind this track: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:axdsylkjxpnb~T1

as a representative of alldisco…as much as we appreciate the hype from Patrick Fuckin Adams, we’re generally lovers, not fighters. I first heard the Larry Levan mix of Lady Bug from Morgan Geist, who has 2 copies but won’t share because they’re worth a lot of money. This is not to be confused with Love Bug, which is similar, but not as good, as Lady Bug.

Gira - Damn! That’s some jumping fun stuff! Thanks for livening up my morning.
