Who Doesn't Want To Be Happy?United State Of Electronica...

Who Doesn't Want To Be Happy?

United State Of Electronica "Umbrella Of Love (Ron Curty Remix)" - Anyone feeling let down by Daft Punk's dudtastic new album should instead spend some time with United State Of Electronica's debut from last year, which is just now being reissued with new remixes. U.S.E. are a seven piece live band that play heavily vocodered Daft Punk disco pop and perform like a twee indie Funkadelic. This remix by Ron Curty is not only the Daft Punkiest song in U.S.E.'s discography, but probably also the Daft Punkiest song of 2005 in general. That's what those guys get for being their own subgenre, I guess. (Click here to visit the official USE website.)

Also: I'm going to be DJing at a FREE indie pop dance party in Brooklyn on Saturday night. The schedule is a bit loose right now, but I should be going on around midnight.

  1. Todd says:

Have you taken a view on whether the advanced versions of the Daft Punk you have heard are not the real album? Some very credible sources are saying that.

  2. Amy says:

please, please, please, please spin the johnny boy song on saturday night!!

  3. Matthew says:

Todd, I really really really hope the version that I heard is not the real thing.

  4. shirley braha says:

oh, wait, we’re actually doing this?

    ok, see you there!

  5. Kunta Kinte says:

    Hmmm…

    Brave new world?

If someone would actually go to the lengths of making an entire full length fake album, knowing it would leak and of course making it a REALLY BAD album, only to make and release the REAL album at the appointed time. Geez… the real album better be fanfuckingtastic!

  6. Eppy says:

I could make an exact replica of “Robot Rock” in about an hour and a half.

  7. gregory bowler says:

    do it, please.

i’m not doubting you i’m just curious.

and then could you email me the track? this seems like an interesting experiment.

  8. Ursula 1000 says:

i am completley feeling you on the daftness of the new Daft Punk. it really sounds phoned in. i do like Robot Rock(the single edit not the LP version) but so much of the rest is SO tedious and not really going anywhere.like in so many things in life, edit the bastard.give me something i can USE!

  9. rajeev says:

that daft punk album (real or not) is definitely not up to par, but i do think about 4 songs from it are great. the first two especially.

i love this U.S.E. remix - matthew, do you know what the other remixes are? i didn’t see anything on their site.

  10. sucka pants says:

watch out for the pad-locked volume control problem at funhouse. . . i wish i was kidding.

and i haven’t seen nakayama since he moved west. damn. see you there.

  11. heath says:

luckily this remix turns down the cheeze factor of USE about 1000%

  12. TayBridgeDisaster says:

Heard that some of the remixes of the new Daft Punk songs are actually pretty decent. Some silver lining. Have you heard any yet? Haven’t been able to get my hands on any myself, so far.

  13. tom says:

i wouldn’t put it past the french pranksters to leak crap in advance….?

  14. Paul says:

Wasn’t this Daft Punk album just supposed to be tossed off from the beginning, though? It sounds exactly like a contract fulfillment album if I ever heard one.

  15. Matthew says:

I’m not clear on why anyone would intentionally generate bad buzz for their forthcoming album. Most people have short memories and will only remember “oh, it sucked, nevermind.”

  16. Gage Samuels says:

I’d agree with the contract claim IF daft punk didn’t own their own label which they license out to the majors.

USE are amazing though. Finally got my hands on a copy of the album…took its time making its way over to Wales…now there’s a reissue? If only I’d waited!

  17. joe usher says:

i cannot believe “robot rock” came from the same 2 guys who made “revolution 909″. i hope its fake, though i dont think so.

  18. Matos W.K. says:

no, the Daft Punk is indeed the real album.

  19. CrayonTeethDrawsBlood says:

I honestly don’t find Human After All to be that bad. Sure, it isn’t up to part with Homework or Discovery, but it’s still a great album in it’s own right. The whole thing is incredibly tounge in cheek, though, and I think the joke is lost on a lot of people.

Still, the title track is one of their best songs yet.

  20. tom says:

Holy crap — i love this U.S.E song — thanks Matthew.

It truly is the best Daft Punk song they never wrote — A “Clayton’s Daft Punk song” (only a handful of people will understand that).

If others here are looking for more Daft Punk songs not written by Daft Punk, check out Mylo’s “Destroy Rock’n'Roll” which you can now find in US record stores.

  21. Jae says:

Man, I would love to see you spin, with the hope that you would possibly play Annie and/or Junior Boys. However, sick as can be and wouldn’t want to infect others w. this miserable flu. You will be posting future nights on the blog, yes?

  22. Matthew says:

Yes. I’ve got something lined up for mid-March.

    Annie = odds are even
Junior Boys = almost entirely improbable

  23. Jae says:

Junior Boys is really not dancing mayhem material, but whee, March! Fanks.

  24. Martin Schuhmacher says:

    Hey Matthew,

I bought the U.S.E. album from the internet seller, that was recommended on the band’s page, because it is not available in Germany. But I couldn’t find the reissue with the new mixes there. Is it already being released? Martin

  25. Matthew says:

I don’t know a lot about the bonus remix cd - I think that it might only be on the Japanese version.

  26. kyle says:

The new reissue of U.S.E is quite amazing. The remixes are slamming! I also got my hands on a Japanese import of theirs w/ the hit song “party people” on it!

  27. nana says:

According to U.S.E’s blogs the All the World EP w/ the remix and another bonus song are lmtd edition stenciled cd’s that the band made themselves. I think they are only selling at shows, but knowing how lovely these people are I bet they would send you one. info@usemusic.com
